I thought I knew what the Charleston food scene had to offer until I had a 5-course meal at R Kitchen. This was a wild culinary experience (food snobs beware). I like ambiance. What I got was a communal seat on the back covered porch with cleaning supplies visible and Led Zeppelin playing through speakers. (Actually, they had me at Led Zeppelin.) I met our tattooed chefs who brought out each dish and explained them (the menu is crafted daily for each seating, creatively honoring dietary restrictions), and I was hooked, line and sinker. Setting? Unassuming, clever and...perfect. Food? Inspiring. Brilliant. So much so that I went out and bought two books the chef said he'd read...and then I began to paint. "R Kitchen" is the first in my Holy City Hospitality series. I want to show you something you've seen of Charleston, but in a slightly different way. It's the people...the humans...who make our amazing hospitality scene. It's an honor to share my experiences and vision. Hope you like them.
